Jean Emery is new to Smarty Paws, having recently moved to the area from Glendale, Arizona, where she has been competing in agility since the early 1990s.
Jean has earned Agility Dog Championship titles on multiple dogs, competed in a nationals final event and has made the podium with her dogs at numerous regional events. She is currently competing with a 7-year-old male Border Collie, Kip, and is just starting to test the show ring with her 2 ½ year-old female Tori. 13-year-old Brilliant went into retirement with the onset of the pandemic and enjoys supervising her younger housemates.
Jean’s love for teaching agility runs as deep as the excitement for competing. For more than fifteen years, Jean was training director at two different agility clubs in the Phoenix metropolitan area, has taught agility at private training facilities and presented many local seminars and workshops. She has taught all levels of classes from foundations to masters handling. Over the years, Jean has trained with many of the leading national and international competitors and instructors, and has also hosted and organized multiple seminars with these important trainers, becoming in the process well-versed in the most common handling systems and current training approaches.
A commercial real estate attorney for more than 20 years, Jean works remotely for a New York law firm providing due diligence review from her home office in Thorp, her home town, and where she lives next door to two of her siblings. Her first year back in Wisconsin has been spent remodeling and reacquainting herself with the upper Midwest.
